Majorca first day - Climb to Pepperpot

The bike shop
Blue Orbeas

It's the first full day in Majorca and the first job is to collect the bikes from the bike shop, two very nice full carbon Orbeas. Kathy is extremely pleased as they are blue!!

Having got the bikes and had them set up and our own saddles fitted it's back to the hotel to finish the final prep (fitting computers, sat nav, etc) before a quick 10 mile check ride out to Alcudia and back.

Now we are ready for the main event a ride to the Pepperpot, an 8km ride climbing just over 1600', ending at an old military look out station. The first part of the climb is on good wide tarmac roads that show up from the distance as a grey diagonal scar. The first point we reach is the viewpoint were we stop to regroup before turning onto the narrow road that leads to our final destination.

Second puncture!

The views from the top are, I was going to say breathtaking but the climb has already done that! So I'll say that the views are worth the pain and exertion even if we were beaten there by the Germans. I have got to the top before Kathy so head back down to meet her just in time to witness her second puncture of the climb. After helping  to fix it with John and used Johns spare tyre as Kathy's had split, I ride with her to the top and enjoy the views for a second time.

Pepperpot, still some climbing to do.

The road travelled
Made it!!

Almost there, last bit on foot

Now comes the best bit 8km of fast descent hitting 35mph on the way down good fun especially as in places there are no barriers between you and a vertical drop!

From here it's on to Pollensa old town to meet with the rest of the group for afternoon tea. It is over tea that we discover that Jim has spent the day trying to take photos with his phone with no great success, primarily because the phone had no camera!!

Too tired to tackle these!

Riding home

After much laughing at Jim's expense we head back to the hotel for showers and a well deserved beer.
