CTC ride to Brockenhurst

It's our first ride of 2014 and the question is whether I need a bike or a boat it certainly could be a day when the bottom bracket bearings are at serious risk!

Our plan is to meet at Hurn Stores and ride to Brockenhurst via a stop for coffee at Burley. All starts well as we meet at Hurn stores and then the plans start to change as the Avon Causeway is flooded. We decide to head out for Christchurch and follow the Saturday morning route to Burley. However, the road at Burton is flooded so another change of route. We finally pick our way along partially flooded and damp roads to Burley where we enjoy a much need coffee before heading off for Brockenhurst.

We reach Brockenhurst by way of  the Burley Road passing underneath the A35 along the way. We stop for lunch as usual at the War Memorial where the grass is doing its own good impersonation of the mud at the Somme! During this short stop , its too cold and damp to linger, we amuse ourselves watching donkeys causing traffic chaos.

From Brockenhurst its a swift ride back through Burley and on  to our starting point at Hurn stores. Its been good to be on the bikes but we can only look forward to some better weather.

Next times bacon butty?
